Services

Automobile Adaptive Equipment - A program set for by Congress which allows highly sophisticated equipment to be installed on various modes of transportation to aid in the ingress/egress by the service connected veteran who has severe disabilities. With the proper installation of adaptive equipment, a severely disabled veteran can now safely operate a vehicle allowing him/her an improved quality of life.

Clothing Allowance - An annual amount of money, specified by Congress, to be paid to each veteran who because of a service-connected disability wears or uses a prosthetic or orthotic appliance (including a wheelchair) which tends to wear out or tear the clothing of such a veteran.

Home Improvement Structural Alterations (HISA) - A program designed to extend the home health services to include home improvements and structural alterations where necessary to ensure the continuation of treatment or provide access to the home or essential lavatory and sanitary facilities.

Eye Glasses - Procurement of prescribed eyeglasses for eligible veterans through contracted sources.

Home Oxygen Therapy - Procurement and treatment of prescribed home oxygen therapy through contracted sources.

Prosthetics - Upper or lower extremity, optical/facial prosthesis, specialized implants fall into the category of this highly technical field. This program is somewhat unique to the VA system. Work is performed in-house in some cases and is contracted out in others.

Orthotics - The science of design, fabrication and fitting of orthopedic appliances, i.e. leg braces, spinal orthotics, foot orthotics, specialized shoes, surgical stockings, etc.

Durable Medical Equipment - Program unique to the VA. This allows the disbursement of hospital beds, wheelchairs, scooters, home safety equipment, lifts, etc. to assist the veteran and his/her caregiver in a better quality of life.

Blind/Low Vision Aids - Program established to assist the visually impaired veteran. Items procured, i.e. magnifying devices, voice enhanced watches, medical devices, etc.

Sensory Aids - Items/devices which are designed to compensate for deficiencies in the sense organs, hearing, low vision, speech and communication.

Mobility Aids - Items/devices which are designed to compensate/aid in ambulation, i.e. canes, walkers, crutches and specialized devices.

Veterans Industry - Veterans Industry is a vocational rehabilitation program of the Department of Veteran Affairs that sub contracts with many and diverse industries. They provide temporary and permanent staffing for information technology, manufacturing, warehousing, construction, office support, retail and the services delivery industry. They also provide outsource support in assembly, packaging, sorting, grading, reclaiming, and recycling.

Vet Center - Readjustment Counseling Service - RCS welcomes home with honor the war veteran by providing quality readjustment services in a caring manner assisting them and their family members toward a successful post-war adjustment in or near their respective communities.

Homeless Veterans - The Homeless Providers Grant and Per Diem Program is offered annually (as funding permits) by the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Programs to fund community agencies providing services to homeless veterans.
