Services
Centers for Independent Living (CILs) provide accessible programs and services to all people with disabilities. These services are designed to help people with disabilities help themselves live more independently and realize their dreams. CIL services and programs are provided mostly by people with disabilities. All people with disabilities can receive CIL services.
CILs offer services based in the community for people with all disabilities. Each CIL offers four core services:
- Peer counseling
- Advocacy
- Information and referral
- Independent living skills training
CILs may also provide other services to meet the needs of people in their communities, including, but not limited to:
- Housing services and training
- Accessibility services
- Job readiness training
- Youth programs
- Community Reintegration programs*
- Personal Assistance programs
Cils also have programs related to assistive technology such as:
- Device loans
- Low vision
- Ramp building programs
- Home repair and maintenance program
- Other miscellaneous small grant programs
*Reintegration programs help people in nursing homes, get out. They have money to buy what the person needs to live in their own home... including assistive devices.
